I am still in shock over this tragedy. I was when I first saw it on the internet and still am after discussing it with so many of my friends. This is already a national story and it is only the beginning of the event being played out in the press. UVA Senior George Huguely has been charged with 1st degree murder. Why? How could any situation wind up with this result? If you are a regular reader of and listener of Terp talk, you know how closely I follow Men’s and Women’s ACC lacrosse. I just can’t believe this happened. Two Friday nights ago, I watched Maryland defeat #4 UVA at Ludwig field before a packed arena. I moved out of the Press Box to sit in the stands because it was such a gorgeous night. I was sitting near many of the UVA parents, several of whom were from Baltimore. The Terps won easily but like most lacrosse games once the game was over all the players on opposing teams who know each other well shake hands , say hello , and all is forgotten. I can’t shake the thought of her parents who most probably were there–watching the game and now dealing with the tragedy.
