For the past 4 days I have encountered 1 question : should the Terps get past Michigan State, can they beat Kansas? I kept insisting that even though the Jayhawks would be the favorite, a Maryland upset was certainly possible. Ever since I saw a good Cornell team dominate 39 minutes at Allen Fieldhouse, I realized this Kansas team was a paper tiger. Are Collins and the X man a better combo then Greivis and Eric? I guess we will never know. But now the stakes have been raised for today’s matchup against Izzo and company.

Listen the Terps have had a super year. Gary being COY in the ACC and Greivis being 1st team All American certainly has made this season special. But now the chance to get to the Sweet 16 looms even larger. This is the same MSU team we destroyed last Thanksgiving. This battle sets up to be a war and I will take General Vasquez to lead us into battle any day over Kalin Lucas. It’s gametime, Terrapin nation is psyched up , and the light is visible at the end of the tunnel. You can interpret this any way you want!!!

Pretty much a dominating effort by the #4 Terps today as they move to 6-0. Grant Catalino led the way with 7 points–4 goals and 3 assists. Overall the dominance of Bryn Holmes on faceoffs and Brian Phipps in the nets was the difference.

As last night’s game developed into a track meet, I was totally confident that the Terps would eventually win easily. There was no way an undermanned Houston team with only 2 scorers could run with Maryland. Some comments on the game at 1:33 AM.

Jordan Williams was outstanding scoring 21 points with 17 rebounds in a break out game. Greivis said after the game that the game plan was to get the ball in deep to Jordan and I though his floor game was superb. Besides his 16 points, the ACC POY had 7 rebounds with 6assists, committing only 1 turnover.

Landon is back. He finished with 19 points and netted his jumper several times.

Aubrey Coleman scored 26 for the Cougars but definitely tired as the game went on. His first step to the bucket gave Maryland fits early and he certainly is a tremendous talent.

“Steady” Eric Hayes was 4-7 from the field with 11 points and 6 assists. Once again Adrian provided excellent minutes off the bench scoring 9 including 2 of his patented line drive 3s.

Gary seemed rather upset in the post game press conference when he heard that Maryland was scheduled to play Michigan State in the early game at 11:45 PST. Basically it’s ridiculous and I will have more to say on PressBox Live Saturday morning on ESPN 1300.

Maryland won the game like a 4 seed should clearly in control in the 2nd half. Only a few desperate 3s by Houston at the end of the first half kept this game somewhat in check.

The ACC completed the first round 4-2 with Duke, Georgia Tech, Wake, and the Terps advancing.

My predictions for the weekend:

Midwest: Kansas, Tenn, Georgia Tech

West: Syracuse,Butler,Pitt, Kansas State

East: Kentucky, Cornell, New Mexico, West Va

South: Duke, Texas A&m, Baylor, St Mary’s

In a superstitious mode I skipped the Md MSU game.
