24 hours after THE GAME:

Down the wire this was a true team effort. The guy who really stood out was Jordan Williams. It’s unusual for a Freshman to do everything right at crunch time but he did. A put back lay up, tough defense, a blocked shot and making free throws. Every game, Jordan gets better. His future is unlimited.

Eric Hayes was his usual stoic self after the game. He is unflappable and this certainly yields dividends in his play.

Sitiing as low as I do , I missed many of Greivis’ interaction with the crowd. #21 really helped the crowd get fired up. Jeff Barker told me on Terp talk Thursday night how post game interviews will never be the sam at Comcast without the Senor.

The final 2 minutes of the game were very unusual in that both teams were down to 1 timeout and the game literally just played on without the usual endless fouling. There has been some conjecture that a rested Greivis and Eric outplayed Scheyer and Singler down the stretch because the 2 Dookies had played virtually the entire game.

Kyle Singler had to have Sean Mosley in his nightmares , as Mr Baltimore completely threw Singler off his game.

In the final 2 minutes, I closely watched the Terps continue to run throught the set plays again and again, gary has to love the way this team plays as a unit.

Is every Terrapin fan worried about a letdown against UVA like I am? How great will it be if the Terps defeat the Wahoos and then we can all sit back and become Tar Heel fans at 9PM.

I watched most of the ESPN coverage and liked everyone told me it was excellent–fair and balanced probably because Dookie V was absent.

Following a disappointing loss to Navy less than 24 hours ago, the seventh-ranked University of Maryland wrestling team wasted little time in showing its mettle against conference foes North Carolina State and Duke. In front of 814 fans at Comcast Pavilion, the Terrapins downed the Wolfpack 30-10 and handed Duke a 32-9 defeat to improve to 3-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference action. The Terps (15-4), whose last home loss was on Jan. 11, 2009, won seven out of 10 matches against both NC State (5-8) and Duke (2-4) to extend their winning streak at Comcast Pavilion to eight matches.
I have said it all year—there is no true leader in the ACC. The Terrapins have a TREMENDOUS opportunity to jump out and take hold of the upper ACC echelon. Duke was Destroyed tonight by NC State and Carolina lost its 3rd in a row- this time to Wake by 13 points in the Dean Dome. NC State comes in on Saturday and then Miami ( who lost at home to Boston College) next Tuesday. Let’s take it 1 shot at a time.

I never like to overanalyze a schedule before the season, but this years Terrapin schedule is pretty typical. It has the usual run of 7 games before New Year’s that should be in the win column. Funny thing is that in the past few a loss in any of the 7 has been viewed as a disaster. Forget the fact Morgan Sytate was on fire last year from the 3 point line. Highlighting the Maui Tourney could be a possible matchup with Born Ready, Lance Stephenson and Cincinnati. The MCI Classic on Dec 6 will feature the Terps against Jay Wright’s Villanove squad. The 6 solo ACC matchups are NCAA Champ North Carolina (H), Maimi (H), G Tech (H), Wake (R), BC (R), and Va Tech (R). Perhaps the marquis game of the year will be a journey to Bloomington to face IU .

I think Maryland needs to follow a similar blueprint that got them to the final 4 in 2002. 4 man big man rotation. Padgett, Williams, Goins, and Gregory. Padgett and Williams will be a tremendous upgrade from Braxton Dupree. I don’t think you can expect Williams and Padgett to do a lot offensively particularly early in the season, but they need to play defense, rebound on both ends, alter some shots, block some shots and be able to catch the ball down low and kick it out to open men on the 3 pt line when the defense sags in. If you can get the ball to an outside shooter who only needs to catch and shoot their 3 pt fg % will increase. This will also open up the inside because defenses will rotate back out then guards can dump down to the big men if they re-position themselves deep near the basket. If the 4 big men can play decently not great but o.k. then Milbourne can play the 3.. he’s tough defensively and hits the 10-15 footer consistently and he plays hard. I’d like to see him use the pump fake and drive a little more. Mosley to me is a Byron Mouton type player, he does whatever is needed. he plays good d, passes well. rebounds well and goes after loose balls well. Sean needs to be able to knock down the short and mid range jumpers much better than last year. When Tucker has the ball in his hands good things happen. I hope him and Greivis can develop some kind of chemistry because Tucker can pass, he has good court sense, can hit the 3 but when he handles the ball good things happen. Hayes should excel off the bench. After the duke game last year his confidence in his offensive abilities went way up. Eric showed he can take over a game if needed, he can shoot well from the outside, he showed more confidence and ability driving, he can pass and has great court sense, so he can run the offense or play off guard. Dino Gregory needs to play down low despite the fact he is undersized. i think that he needs to be a guy who just goes all out on d hits the boards sets picks and only shoots when he has a lay-up. So far he not displayed any real offensive skills. Goins might be a sleeper. Don’t forget he was 6’4″ in 9th grade, grew 6 inches between 6th and 7th period, broke his leg in 11th grade and was really heavy and out of shape his senior year. In the very little time he played last year. I could see he had athleticism, good hands and footwork and some offensive skills and I think he could block 2-3 shots a game. I think he’ll give the team some quality minutes off the bench though most people I talk to think i’m crazy.
