Marah Strickland takes her 2 years of eligibility left and bolts for South Carolina to play for the legendary Dawn Staley. Marah under NCAA rules will have to sit out this season.

Terrapin Times reported yesterday that Drey Mingo has found a new home at Purdue. Marah Strickland has kept her options open but is leaning to South Carolina where she would hope to be the focus of the offense. I still do not understand why Marah left.

I really don’t have a good answer as to why Marah Strickland left the Terps. She had averaged 28 minutes per game, free wheeled and took many 3 point shots and was poised probably to be the offensive focus player this season. She seemed to be a happy member of the team. Still scratching my head over this one. Good Luck Marah.

As a sopomore Marah Strickland averaged 28 minutes per game. With Kristi and Marissa leaving it obvious her role would increase. But she just didn’t accept the facts and is moving on. Best of luck to both ladies. I am sure Brenda is working on replacements as I write. By the way, I had a chance to chat with Marissa at the Wizards game last night. She is ecstatic at staying at home and playing for the Mystics.

Marissa Coleman netted a double double (17 points 16 rebounds) leading the Terrapins to an easy win over Miami in Coral Gables. Marah Strickland added 17 points and thus the Terps finish the regular season 12-2 in the ACC. The 1st place finish should insure a #1 seeding in the NCAA Tournament. The latest ESPN Bracket prediction shows Maryland #1 in the Raleigh (South) division.

It is inconceivable for a guard to have a better game, then Kristi Tolliver had tonight. Playing before the 5th largest crowd in NCAA history and a nationally televised audience, Kristi hit 7 threes, shot 12-21 and played a perfect floor game. Fellow Senior Marissa Coleman added 24 points for the #7 ranked Terps. Should the Terps win out the regualar season and the ACC Tournament, a #1 seed could await. Kizer, Coleman Lead Lady Terps to a 87-79 Win at Georgia Tech

Freshman center Lynetta Kizer did a little bit of everything on Thursday, scoring a career-best 22 points and adding 10 rebounds to help lead the No. 9/7 University of Maryland women’s basketball team to its sixth straight win, 87-79, over Georgia Tech at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Kizer, the Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Rookie of the Year, went 9-for-12 from the floor and recorded a career – and team season-high five steals with three blocks (t-career-high) and two assists. Terrapin senior Marissa Coleman provided another electric performance, scoring a game-high 23 points with eight rebounds and a season-high seven assists. Coleman went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line. Maryland (22-4, 9-2 ACC) shot 52.7 percent from the floor and, against the league’s top scoring defense, netted 87 points – the most points the Yellow Jackets (18-8, 5-6) allowed all season.

Kizer is quickly becoming the key to late season success for the Terps . When she is turning it up inside, the Lady Terps become an unstoppable force with its 2 Seniors getting the open looks they need. Come on NCAA tourney.

Stanford Bombards Terps 98-87 and Advances to the Final Four–Tolliver Scores 35

Maybe things would have turned out better had the Terps been slighted and received a #2 seed. Candice Wiggins and the Stanford Cardinal completed their Mission of Respect and thoroughly defeated the Terps in the finals of the Spokane Region. With the Terps concentrating on Jane Appel, the Cardinal poured in 3 pointer after 3 pointer. Wiggins who will leave for Team USA following the final four would not let the Terps back in the game hitting many key shots. As Brenda said afterwards “Sometimes, its just not your day.” Kristi Tolliver singlehandily kept the Terps in the game with a stellar effort. So all in all Stanford was the better team Monday night but let us not forget a memorable 33-4 season. Kristi, Marissa Coleman, and Marah Strickland return next season.
