How can Grievis Vasquez help make the Terps a better team and help his cause in the next year’s NBA draft. Good point guards know how to control the pace of the game, get other players involved and know when to shoot the ball. Vasquez has great court sense and a real good feel for the game. However in the past he has gone through periods where he just throws up shots without taking into consideration time and score. I think a lot of this can be attributed to Vasquez becoming impatient when the team goes into an offensive lull and he feels he needs to do it all by himself. These are the times when he needs to show greater patience working for a good shot rather than throwing up a 25 footer with 15-20 seconds left on the shot clock. As a senior and leader of this team the time is now for charasmatic Vasquez to show the maturity an experienced player should possess at this stage of his career. Vasquez needs to become quicker and more explosive particularly with his first few strides pushing the ball upcourt or trying to blow by a defensive player. Maybe some of the sprinters on the track team can aid him with the first step move. I certainly believe Gary is making the right choice playing Vasquez at the point. Tall point guards can see over the d, and you can bring your big man out to the free throw line, post a tall point guard down low and he can easily shoot over smaller defenders.
