The Ravens were caught off guard Monday night as Derrick Mason presumably retired atfter a 12 year NFL career. For the time being optimism has flown out the window. Joe Flacco needs a possession receiver and there is no better one then Derrick Mason. There is a SOS call going around for the Ravens to find a suitable replacement. This will not be an easy task, even for Ozzie. Could this be a posturing move for more money? The speculation begins.

THIS TIME IT’S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY!
I don’t think Mason’s retirement announcement has to do with money. My guess is Mason was close to McNair and was shocked by his friend’s death. Mason needs time to mourn and reflect. I would think in a month or so Ozzie Newsome and probably Ray Lewis will sit down and have a long talk with Mason. Plus, Mason will be able to forego much of training camp saving his body a lot of wear and tear. No, it’s not about money, it’s about giving Mason time to clear his head.
