Two Terps had been taken in the 2009 MLB Draft, and quickly here is an update on them:-A.J. Casario signed quickly after being taken in the 38th round by the Chicago White Sox. The outfielder was placed on the Bristol White Sox, the rookie level team in the Appalachian League. Unfortunately he has struggled this year. In 28 games he is batting just .158 with no home runs and two RBIs. Worse, he has 30 strikeouts with just five walks in 76 at-bats.
–Scott Swinson was drafted in the 46th round by the Baltimore Orioles, but did not sign with the major league club, so he will return to Maryland for his senior year under new manager Eric Bakich. He rejoined the Youse’s Orioles summer league team, where in five starts he went 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA. In 27 innings pitched he got 16 strikeouts with just four walks.
