The No. 2-ranked Maryland women’s lacrosse team made an early statement in Atlantic Coast Conference play Saturday with a thrashing of No. 5 Duke, 17-4. The Terps (3-0, 1-0 ACC) benefited from a balanced scoring attack, highlighted by hat tricks from Katie Schwarzmann, Amanda Spinnenweber and Sarah Mollison. Maryland picked up scoring from a total of nine players on the day, five of whom put up multi-goal showings.
“I thought we really put everything together today, both offensively and defensively,” head coach Cathy Reese said. “To hold an offense as good as Duke’s to only four goals is a testament to our entire team. This was a great way to start the conference season, but we realize we have another big test ahead of us next Friday against Virginia.” (from umterps.com)
