One year ago the Terps and the Hoos engaged in a Classic 6 OT Battle in which the Terps won were victorious in the 1st overtime on a goal by Grant Catalino–errrrrrrrr wait a minute someone from the UVA sideline called a timeout as Maryland was in transition and the refs granted it—5 overtimes later UVA scored and the Terps season was never the same. Saturday night at 8PM at Byrd, the #1 Cavs come to town with the Terps still smarting from a disappointing defeat at the hands of the Tar Heels. Some key points :
Grant Catalino will be fired up this week after last week’s showing against the Tar Heels. In my eyes, he is the best lacrosse player in college today and look for him to have a great rebound game against UVA.
Steele Stanwyck leads the Cavs into College Park. A member of the first family of lacrosse in Baltimore, Steele became another Stanwyck who opted not to attend Maryland. The 3 Stanwyck girls, Coco, Sheehan, and Wick all attended Georgetown. Tad (Rutgers), Steele (UVA) and Wells is still in high school. If I missed one I apologize. Anyway, this is a great lacrosse family and every sibling has been schooled to perfection by their dad.
The Bratton brothers have blossomed this year, fulfilling their potential. UVA handled Syracuse, destroyed Johns Hopkins but I believe the Cavs face their stiffest teat on saturday.
Dismiss the Carolina game. I truely believe the Terps were thrown off course when Billy Bitter did not play for the heels. They had practiced all week to face Bitter and there had to be some sort of emotional letdown. This is a crucial game for the Terps. Their reputation is on the line. i am sure Coach Cottle will make some offensive adjustments to inject some speed into the attack. i would look for Joe Cummings to see more playing time and perhaps inserting all 5 of Marylands attack guys in the lineup at certain situations. Carolina bullied the Terps and I highly doubt this will happen again.

catalino..best player…no. best players don’t disappear when playing against the number 2 team in the country. best players rise to the occasion. emotional letdown because the other team’s best player is out. poor excuse and unacceptable. that’s lack of leadership from the team’s top players and poor coaching. oh and by the way, g-d forbid you should ever give credit to the other team, in this case n.c. who out coached and outplayed maryland. welcome to the no spin zone. welcome to the truth.
