The Terps got it done today by winning the must-win. Maryland is in a brutally tough stretch of games right now, and their two game losing streak shows that. They absolutely could not go into a game against Johns Hopkins next weekend on a 3-game losing streak, meaning they had to get the W today. Props to the Terps for fending off a gutsy, never-quit Navy team led by a sensational effort from goalie RJ Wickham.
To me, Grant Catalino was the catalyst for today’s win. I am sure many will point to Travis Reed’s 4 goal, 1 assist performance and pronounce him player of the game. I disagree. Yes, Reed finished with 5 points on the day, while Catalino only had 3. BUT, Catalino’s 3 goals were the most important goals of the game. With his team on a two game losing streak and down 3-1 to Navy, Catalino put the team on his back. His 3 goals at the end of the first half allowed the Terps to go into the locker room with a lead, and Navy was never able to take the lead again. Credit to Reed for a great offensive showing today, but even more credit to Catalino for getting it done at a pivotal time in the game.
