I hope the troubles of the O’s closer at Camden Yards hasn’t filtered to Shipley Field.
Maryland held a 4-2 lead over Boston College with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but a two-run home run by Mickey Wiswall sent it to extras and Rob Moir’s RBI single in the 10th gave the Eagles a 5-4 win Saturday afternoon. The Terps were a perfect 11-0 this season when leading after the eighth inning, and looked to be in good position to get the win with ace closer Dan Gentzler on the mound. The senior relieved John Dischert to record the final out of the eighth and was one out away from recording his seventh save of the season. But Boston College’s Brad Zapenas put the Eagles in position to tie it by leading off the ninth with a single. After a flyout and a groundout, Wiswall hit a 1-0 offering over the center field wall to tie it. Boston College quickly loaded the bases in the 10th on a walk, an error and an intentional walk, and Moir’s pinch-hit single through the right side gave the Eagles the stunning win.
