Vengeance, program pride, and a clear desire of setting the record straight –led the Terrapins to a thorough thrashing of the #1 tar Heels at a jam packed Ludwig Field today. This game was clearly in Maryland’s control from jump street to the end. Goalie Brittany Dipper’s 12 saves many from the free position —made Carolina’s day very frustrating. Tourney MVP Caitlyn McFadden scored 3 times and added 2 assists though clearly being targeted by the Tar Heel defense. The Terps jumped off to 3-1 lead and never looked back. North Carolina defeated Northwestern 18-15 a week ago in Evanston but they certainly did not appear to be the free scoring team on Sunday. Maryland clogged up the lanes and Carolina ‘s shot selection was very weak. Adding to that was an incredible performance by Dipper in the nets.
So as we enter the final phase of the regular season , it is clear the NCAA Championship is up for grabs between 3 teams, the Terps , the Tar Heels, and Northwestern but after today at this point of the season the University of Maryland is clearly #1 team in the nation and the polls should reflect that fact on Monday!!!!!
