The Maryland Terrapins continue their success in the recruiting game with another huge pickup in the high school class of 2013, IL has learned. Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.) attackman Tim Rotanz, No. 11 on the 2011 Inside Lacrosse Young Gun Rising Juniors list, has committed to play for the Terrapins and head coach John Tillman.
Just the third sophomore in Suffolk County history to earn All-America honors, Rotanz led the Wildcats to a 17-3 record and the Section 11 Class B crown in 2011. He tore up the competition this summer in Lake Placid.
Tim’s father, longtime Shoreham head coach Tom Rotanz, confirmed his son’s commitment Thursday night. The Rotanz family made visits to Johns Hopkins, Denver, Ohio State, Virginia, Duke, UNC, and Hofstra before Tim chose College Park. Other schools he considered include Penn State, Syracuse, Rutgers, Loyola and UMass.
With Rotanz’s decision, Maryland has received verbal commitments from three of the best offensive prospects in the 2013 class. Prior to Rotanz, the Terps received commitments from La Salle’s Matt Rambo, the No. 1 player in IL’s Top 50 Rising Junior list and Cazenovia’s Connor Cannizzaro, who is ranked No. 9.
