Most stories I have read about the game today are overflowing with pessimism. Not here. Why? Because today I watched the unveiling of a talent, the likes of which we haven’t seen in College Park since…..I am not sure whom. Stefon Diggs was simply sensational today. He is electric. His instincts and first move on the 3 punt returns were brilliant. He had but 8 touches and on all but one was a threat to break open the play. Vernon Davis could not be tackled, Torrrey was well just Torrey but Stefon plays in a magical way. This was game one for him.
So Perry Hills threw 3 picks. He is a true freshman everyone. He’s been QB1 for 2 weeks. Think back to Scott McBrien’s first game against the Irish at the Meadowlands. Oh yea, Scott was a redshirt Junior at the time.
Joe Vellano showed why he a great chance to play on Sundays. 11 tackles, catching RBs from behind, another pick. Joe played like the leader he is.
Nate Renfro averaged 53 yards per punt including his tremendous one in the 4th pinning the Tribe on the 3 yard line.
I do believe the Terps could have pounded the ball a little more. Justice Pickett and Albert Reid combined for a nice rushing effort.
Brian Stewart’s stunting defense was on display today as W&M biggest plays were interference calls against Dexter.
The crowd sure seemed larger then 31,000. Pregame was unusally festive with many new activities in the tailgate zones.
Rick Jaklitsch was in the house yesterday and is on the strong road to recovery.
I refuse to be pessimistic after a win. There are tons of downer articles everywhere else so if that’s the medicine you need read elsewhere. Yes I thought the win might come easier. Yes I was hoping to score more then 7.
Today 31,000 were witnesses to the evolving of a superstar in Stefon Diggs. Today we stand at 1-0.
Please spare me the pessimism!!!

You will see a different team next week. I believe that all of the freshman had some butterflies inside today. They just needed to get use to the fast pace of college ball. After we scored it helped the freshman relax a little bit and Hills was the one that helped engineer the 10 play 60 sum yard drive. He needed that to boost his confidence. They will work hard this week and like I said you will see a new team next week. Also steller D today WOW!

if stefon is as good as steve suter as a return man that’s pretty good. he’s the best i have seen. jermaine lewis was really good. hills needs to get some experience so the game slows down for him. overall rushing ave of less than 3 yds a carry has to get better. anytime your punter who has never kicked before in a game ave.’s over 50 is great. smallest opening day crowd since 1997. a win is a win but there is nothing to get excited about. wm and mary is an average small school. it’s not like md beat a good bcs school. we’ll see how things progress as the season moves on. hills comp % was pretty good. md has some nice young players to build a solid foundation
