I just watched the replay of the Ravens victory over the Browns. Of course after 1 or 2 series of the 2nd quarter , I fast forwarded the game to the final 12 minutes. Can a team play worse offensively then the Purple did in the 2nd and 3rd quarters? Finally when Joe’s back was up against the wall he rallied the troops and drove nearly the length of the field for the game winning TD. Cleveland was 28th against the run yet the Ravens could not impose their will at the line of scrimmage.
The defense bent and bent and bent again but never broke as the Browns could only muster 5 FGs.Now it looks like we are in the usual dogfight with Pittsburgh for AFC North Supremacy as the Steelers rallied to defeat the Giants 24-20 at the Meadowlands.
As I was sitting on the plane returning to Baltimore, a man from Ohio reminded me that 42 years and 6 months ago 4 students at Kent State were gunned down by National guardsman. How could that ever happen in our country? He also reminded me that as usual the fate of the Presidency probably rests in the hands of the Ohio voters. Next up for the Ravens is the 3-6 Oakland Raiders as Darrius Heyward Bey is coming to town

what about the riot on the campus of ole miss when james meridith enrolled in 1962. or when edgar medvers was killed or what happened to peaceful civil rights demonstrators in the south like in birminham. in 1963 or the riots at the 68 democratic convention in chicago. or the riots in det. wash, balto etc in 68. son, you should take a u.s. history course.

as sad as the kent st incident is it’s not hard to say why that happened. you have young inexperienced guardsmen, many of whom are students themselves and they are scared. one panics and shots and the situation gets out of hand. what happened in the south is much harder to believe but then again you’re dealing with many white southerners who were extreme racists. who still believed in the confederacy still existed.

First of all NFL is supposed to be entertainment, in this regard the Ravens continue to fail miserably.
How much longer must we be subjected to this pathetic brand of football?
Yes they win, but here is the enjoyment of the game?
As for the violent nature of our country supposedly in the past and the inherent racism, it is as bad today, however covert.
The Republican appeal to so many whose best interests are not served, is masked in the sublime and continuous appeal to the lower base instincts if racism. It has been this way since Nixon/Agnew and the “silent majority” and Lee Atwater continued that cause till his death. Now Karl Rove and his ilk fan the flames. It is the only way a party that overtly caters to the rich 1%, can mount credible national campaigns and win.
It is so festered that I fear for Obama’s life if he wins, which I think he will much easier than the media wants to admit.
