Michael’s 8th Ave was the sight of the 2012 Induction into the Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame. The highlight for me of course was the induction of James Kappler, former Terrapin Goalie who many consider the premier Lax goalie of all time. Kappler led Maryland to 2 National titles in his 3 year stint as Goalie.
Johnny Holliday received the John F Steadman Award as part of his induction. As usual the “Maryland Legend” wowed the audience with his many tales of his life.
The review of the career of the All Time Baltimore Legend, Johnny Unitas, opened the show. My own greatest story of #19 was one I will never forget. I was in the dentist’s office waiting room along with Johnny for about an hour waiting for our sons work to be finished. When I told Johnny of all the happiness he had brought me over the years, he just smiled and laughed to himself. We went over hundreds of plays I remembered. He sat there patiently discussing everything with me. Words will never describe how I feel about #19.
Golfer Carol Mann, former Light Welterweight Champion Sharmba Mitchell, Danny Ferry, Hopkins Goalie Mike Federico, and Jocket Mario Pino rounded out the induction class.
