One Man’s Opinion—Playing “Chicken” With Joe Flacco is a Fool’s Game

Is there anyone in my reading audience who thinks that Geno Smith or Matt Barkley could replace Joe Flacco? Maybe they could but the odds are so strong against that proposition. This might be the dumbest contingency I have ever heard presented.  Don’t we ever learn from our mistakes.#99 can be replaced. #29 can be replaced. #88 can be replaced. McKinnie–I am not sure about. #20 and #81 would be brutal to lose. BUT LOSING #5 would damage this franchise for possibly a decade. Do I have to go into the parade of insufficient QBs we suffered through while wasting away one of the greatest defenses ever.

Changing QBs after our 1st Super Bowl almost wrecked the franchise. With the best defense in the history of the NFL, the Ravens wasted 4 years of potential Super Bowl contention by switching to Elvis. Keep messing with Joe and one day he might wake up and realize that there are probably 5 teams who would gladly welcome the guy who today stands as the most successful QB in the NFL. Do you doubt what I say? Would you trade him for a 35 year old Brady, for a 37 year old QB who can’t play in cold weather, for Matty Ice who is 1-3 in the playoffs. I would agree you might want Aaron Rodgers but the 30 year old Packer QB will become the highest paid QB next year.

I can’t believe I an even writing this. I thought the deal would have been done.

I think they’ll get the deal done but it goes both ways. I don’t know how far apart the 2 sides are but even Joe Flacco has a maximum salaray that any team is willing to pay. The Ravens are a top notch organization and they will sign Joe unless the price is so high that it doesn’t make sense to sign him. But don’t worry, the deal will get done.
