Ravens linebacker
Status: Unrestricted free agent
The good: Ellerbe was the Ravens’ best defensive player by the end of the team’s Super Bowl run. This season, he finished second on the team in tackles (89) and sacks (4.5). Ellerbe is athletic and aggressive who is just hitting his stride as an every-down player.
The bad: His attitude and work ethic have been a problem at times. He has been known to be late for meetings and practices. This is why the talented Ellerbe has only started 14 games in four years. There’s also durability concerns with Ellerbe, who always seems to be battling injuries.
The bottom line: It’s hard not to notice Ellerbe when you put on the tape. He’ll be in demand in free agency, especially with the likes of the Browns and Bills needing impact inside linebackers for their new 3-4 defenses. The Ravens won’t let him go easily. With the retirement of Ray Lewis and the injury status of Jameel McClain (spinal cord contusion), Ellerbe should be Baltimore’s priority this offseason.
