A Capacity Plus Crowd at Homewood for Lacrosse’s Greatest Rivalry

Some comments on a very disappointing Terrapin loss at Homewood:

Yes it was Groiundhog again for the Terps. A carbon copy repeat of last year’s loss to Hopkins at College Park.

I am concerned about the offense’s sudden inabilty to score 6 on 6.

Charlie Raffa utterly dominated Drew Kennedy 15-6 causing Pietramala to switch gears and use Michael Pellegrino at the X.

When Jesse Schwartzmann was on Terp Talk Wednesday , he commented that Hopkins was working on groundballs all week.  It paid off today for the Blue Jays.

It was quite a war between Stanwick and Goran Murray, especially early on.

The final score could have been much worse if not for some spectacular work in the nets by Niko Amato.

Clearly Hopkins played with a greater sense of urgency.  Tillman commented that in his tenure at Maryland, it seems that the team that needs the game more plays better. Such was the case today.

Though Pietramala was ecstatic at the close of the game (hugging everyone in sight), he refused to admit he was “happy” when I directly asked him the question post game, commenting that he was only happy for his players, coaches, and fans. All he was concerned with was the upcoming “trap game” with Mt St Mary’s on Monday. C’mon Coach admit you were happy getting your first top 5 win of the season and probably securing a NCAA bid providing no collapse occurs.

As for Maryland, a huge game awaits the Terps next Saturday as they attempt to bounce back vs Notre Dame in South Bend. A win for Maryland would secure them a regular share of the ACC Title and a #1 seed in the ACC Tournament based on its lobsided victory over Duke.

Though this game was one sided there were a few standout performances by the Terps:

Captain Mike Chanenchuck had 3 assists and fought every second of the match.

Rustin Bryant scored twice and kept Maryland somewhat in the game.

Raffa was incredible as usual.
