Maryland is 12-3 on the season following its 8-7 win over Cornell on May 10 in College Park. The win is Maryland’s first as a seeded team in the tournament since 2010. Senior Mike Chanenchuk continues to lead the team this season with 48 points on 30 goals and 18 assists. He is followed by freshman Matt Rambo, who has 35 points on 29 goals and six assists, which is the highest output by a Terrapin freshman since 2008 when Grant Catalino finished with 42 points. Junior Charlie Raffa has won 169-of-250 (.676) faceoffs this season, which ranks second in the nation, with a team-best 103 groundballs. Senior Niko Amato has started every game of his college career (65 straight) and boasts a 7.17 goals-against average (3rd in the NCAA) with a .574 save percentage (8th in the NCAA) this season.

• The Bulldogs are 16-4 on the year after topping Siena, 9-8 in a play-in game, and No. 2 seed Syra- cuse, 10-9, to pick up their first NCAA tournament wins. Sophomore attackman Shane Morrell, leads Bryant with 59 points on 44 goals and 17 assists. Freshman attackman Tucker James has 50 points on 30 goals, including four vs. the Orange, and 20 assists. Senior midfielder Alex Zomerfeld leads Bryant with 24 assists to go along with 16 goals for 40 points. Junior faceoff specialist Kevin Massa leads the NCAA with a .708 winning percentage and also leads the NCAA with 10.95 groundballs per game (219 total). Sophomore Gunnar Waldt has started 19 of the Bulldogs’ 20 games and is 5th in the nation in goals-against average (7.52) and fourth in save percentage (.610).

COACHING MATCH-UP

  • John Tillman is in his seventh season as a head coach, and fourth with the Terps, with a 67-37 career record for a 64.4 winning percentage. Tillman is 47-18 (.723) as Maryland’s head coach. He had a 20-19 record in three seasons as the head coach at Harvard.
  • Bryant’s Mike Pressler is in his eighth season as the head coach at Bryant and has a 93-46 (.669) record with the Bulldogs. Overall, Pressler is in his 30th season as a head coach and has a 322-184 (.733) mark. Of those 30 years, 24 have been as a Div. I head coach at Duke and Bryant (246-128, .658).
