If you’re not as excited about Maryland baseball as you should be, take a look at these three defensive gems by Maryland’s LaMonte who was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Baseball Tournament UCLA Regional.
But before you do, keep in mind that as a team, Maryland has:
A) Already set a program record for most wins in a season with 42
B) Won at least 40 games in back to back years for the first time in program history
C) Has made a second consecutive appearance in an NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1970-71 and is in the Super Regional in consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.
In addition to the three plays you see below, Wade was pretty much a terror at the plate as well. He had 6 hits in 15 at bats in the four games with two home runs, two runs scored and two runs batted in.
In the field, he did this in Maryland’s opening game against Ole Miss:
Maryland’s LaMonte Wade can FLY! #RoadToOmaha #SCTop10 https://t.co/kbhL3r11P2

Then, in the second game against UCLA, the Bruins decided to test his arm. It was a mistake because this is what happened:
Maryland’s LaMonte Wade shows off his hose! #RoadToOmaha #SCTop10 http://t.co/qbLvVlRb5v

But the Bruins didn’t learn from the error of their ways. So, in Maryland’s 2-1 win Monday night they tried again.
Dear LaMonte Wade, You are amazing. Sincerely, #RoadToOmaha http://t.co/NS7kBUOlcd

Now the Terps look to gain a measure of redemption. Last year, the Cavaliers ended the Terrapins season in the Super Regional in Charlottesville. This year, Maryland hopes to return the favor. The fun begins Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm. Best two of three.
