After leading the Maryland women’s lacrosse team to its second straight NCAA Championship, head coach Cathy Reese was named IWLCA National Coach of the Year Monday.
Reese, who also earned national coach of the year honors in 2010 and 2014, led the Terrapins to a 21-1 overall record. Maryland posted a 5-0 conference record in the inaugural season of Big Ten lacrosse and also took home the regular season conference championship.
Under Reese’s direction, Maryland recorded 15 wins over Inside Lacrosse top-20 teams and outscored opponents 310-160. Five Terps were named IWLCA All-Americans, and Taylor Cummings and Megan Douty repeated as the IWLCA National Midfielder and Defender of the Year, respectively. Cummings also earned her second straight Tewaaraton Award and Honda Award.
Reese has played a role in 10 of the Terps’ 13 national championships, including four as a player, three as an assistant coach and three as a head coach. She was also named the IWLCA South Regional Coach of the Year.
