Terrapins Dominate Towson 6 zip on Field Hockey Senior Day

The sixth-ranked Maryland field hockey team (15-3, 7-0 B1G) beat Towson, 6-0, on Senior Day Sunday to win its 13th straight game. With the shutout victory, the Terrapins have won a school-record five straight shutouts. 

Prior to Sunday’s contest, the Terrapins recognized their eight seniors – Faye CurranAnna DessoyeJill GenoveseShari JonesWelma LuusAlyssa ParkerSarah Sprink and Kasey Tapman.

Sophomore Lein Holsboer opened the scoring when she tapped one in behind the Towson goalkeeper four minutes into the match. Dessoye picked up an assist on the play, making her the sixth Terrapin in history with 50 career assists.

About 15 minutes into the match, Sprink banged in the Terps’ second goal off a penalty corner set up by Dessoye and junior Delaney Leathers.

With just over 10 minutes left in the half, sophomore Floor Paanakker carried the ball into the circle and scored her first career goal off a hard shot from just inside the arc.

Just two minutes later, Luus deflected in a long pass from sophomore Carrie Hanks from outside the circle to make it 4-0 at halftime.
