Redshirt senior Brene Moseley scored 20 points and dished out 10 assists, but the No. 5 Maryland women’s basketball team (12-2, 1-1 B1G) fell, 80-71 to No. 9 Ohio State (10-3, 2-0) at XFINITY Center Saturday afternoon.
Junior Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added 16 points for the Terps while junior Brionna Jones notched 10 points and nine rebounds.
“On the basketball end, you saw the effects and the impact of three games in six days,” head coach Brenda Frese. “It’s not an excuse in terms of how we played. Like I mentioned to the team in the locker room, when you want to be a championship team and compete for titles, there’s going to come a time in the tournament where you have to play three games in three days. I thought there was a lot of uncharacteristic plays with us from fatigue, which is the mental side of the game that we have to improve on. I thought Ohio State came in here and had a sensational second half. “

Anyone who thinks that Ohio State didn’t have an edge because they had played games at #2 South Carolina, at #3 Notre Dane plus home games against UConn, #10 Texas A&M and Michigan State (#24) as opposed to Maryland who spent their non-conference schedule playing the likes of UMass Lowell, Southern and UMES is sadly mistaken.
