Reflections on National Signing Day

An exciting National Signing Day (NSD) for the Terps

DJ Durkin said “our big guys need to be big and our fast guys need to be fast” for the class of 2017. Looking at the list of recruits for the football team, he made those words come true.

For me, NSD has always been fun, but this year our Terps made an impact. It is certainly a top 20 class the Terps brought in to College Park. I am not sure who to be more excited to see on the field. Here are a few candidates –

Markquese Bell – A 6-2 defensive back from New Jersey who might start right away. The combination of football skills, speed and hitting that makes for a good safety. An area of great need for Maryland. He is a fast guy who is actually fast.

Breyon Gaddy – 6-4 315lbs, a defensive lineman who was committed to TN before he switched to Maryland. From the Tidewater area of Virginia. He could start soon. A big guy who is really big.

Kasim Hill – 6-2 230lb quarterback. He has been the star of the class, although I am not sure he will start in September. Caleb Henderson might be the QB for 2017. The St John’s College High School product (same school as Under Armour’s Kevin Plank) is a highly regarded winner and will get on the gridiron soon.

Anthony McFarland – 5-8 185lb running back. From Dematha, it is a big deal to beat Miami among others to grab a DeMatha Stag. He is the 71 best player in America. That’s all you need to know.

Cam Spence – 6-3 311lb defensive line. The 27th or 20th best defensive lineman depending on where you look. From St John’s College High School. Another big guy who is big. He is projected to be an every down lineman who can play the run and rush the passer.

There are many more and it appears that they will play soon. Exciting times in CP.
