Junior Zach Jancarski’s RBI single in the eighth capped the Maryland baseball team’s four-run inning and its comeback 12-11 victory over Richmond Tuesday night at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.
The Terrapins (19-8, 5-1 Big Ten) pounded out 14 hits, with four players notching multi-hit games. Senior Nick Cieri’s three-run homer tied the game in the eighth before Jancarski’s game-winning single.
Maryland has now won 18 of its last 21 games. The Terps are 11-1 so far this year at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.
A total of 15 runs were scored between both teams in the first two innings. Richmond opened the contest with a three-spot in the top of the first, before the Terps responded with four of their own in the bottom half. Jancarski opened that inning with a walk before Nick Dunn was hit by a pitch. Sophomore Marty Costes then slapped a single through the left side, but Jancarski was thrown out trying to score.
Senior Brandon Gum followed with a single that plated Dunn. After Will Watson walked to load the bases, Cieri drew a walk to bring in Costes. Sophomore Dan Maynard gave Maryland in the lead, lacing a single up the middle to plate a pair.
