2017 Class Overview

A post by Jordan

Now that MJ Walker has committed to Florida State we have a better understanding of the 2017 recruiting class. We will still have a top 100 recruit now that four star combo guard Daryll Morsell has advanced into the ESPN top 100, a second four star in IMG center Bruno Fernando and yet another grad transfer in big man Sean Obi. While this is a good class, it’s worth noting that this is considered the weakest class since the 2013 class which featured #52 ranked recruit Roddy Peters and 3 star Damonte Dodd. The Terps will have had 8 straight years with a ESPN top 100 recruit going back to the late Gary Williams era.

2010-Mychal Parker #45

2011- Nick Faust #37

2012-Shaquille Cleare #30, Jake Layman #67

2013-Roddy Peters #52

2014-Melo Trimble #29, Dion Wiley #52

2015-Diamond Stone #6

2016-Kevin Huerter #49, Anthony Cowen #62

2017-Daryll Morsell #100 (5/25/2017)

This streak of success shows Maryland’s recruiting prowess. Although the Terps still lack depth the point guard position with Jaylen Brantley transferring to UMass, this class in addition to the returning Justin Jackson should leave Maryland in a good spot in the Big Ten.
