Maryland lacrosse last won a title 15,330 days or 397,920 hours in the making. Maryland is considered, along with Syracuse and Hopkins, to be the flagship programs of lacrosse. It had been 42 years since the Terps won the title.
Only the last 4 of those years mattered directly to me. My following lacrosse as a fan started with this group of, now graduating, seniors. I felt the heartbreak that came with the recent Terp run. Year after year they would have a deep tournament run, and time after time they were stopped. The moment where the team threw their gear off and charged for their goalie Dan Morris was a moment that could only happen once for me, and for this team.
Watching this group of players would lead to play lacrosse. These aren’t just players to me, they are real people to me. This weekend I thought back to the days where a freshman Matt Rambo wore number 15, Connor Cananarrzo was a Terp, and Dylan Maltz still wore ‘cuse Orange, I thought about how far both they, and I, had come. The moment couldn’t have been better, after what we all witnessed, the last 3+ years and all the heartbreak that comes with being a Terp fan. It culminated with a rainy celebration in Foxboro that capped a glorious moment for all Terp Fans.
