Maryland baseball head coach John Szefc has accepted the head coaching position at Virginia Tech. A national search for the head coaching position will commence immediately. “John did a tremendous job taking Maryland baseball to new heights,” Maryland director of athletics Kevin Anderson said.
Rising sophomore Kevin Huerter has accepted an invitation to attend the 2017 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Cup Team training camp June 18-25 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In addition, redshirt freshman Joshua Tomaic will compete at the U19 World Cup for Spain when the tournament tips off in Cairo, Egypt from July 1-9.
The Maryland women’s basketball team will open its World University Games run Monday, Aug. 21 vs. Uganda, then will play two more pool play games, followed by medal rounds in Taipei, Taiwan. The Terrapins were selected by the United States International University Sports Federation (US-IUSF) to represent the United States in the World University Games, which will be Aug. 19-30, 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan. They were selected to Pool C, along with the Czech Republic, Uganda and Poland. The other countries that qualified for the women’s basketball competition are Chinese Taipei, Hungary, Sweden, China, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Portugal, Russia, Australia, Lithuania and Argentina.
