It has been a busy week in Maryland football recruiting. Here is the rundown.
Brain Cobbs
By Mason (The intern) Viener
Brian Cobbs, a 3-star (24/7composite) receiver is the newest addition to the Maryland Football 2018 class. A member of the DMV to UMD movement, Cobbs stands at 6’2”, and weighs in at 200 pounds. He adds an element of speed to the Terps receiving core that has yet to come to the 2018 class. The Terps have been targeting bigger receivers recently, like fellow 2018 commit Dontay Demus Jr. (6’4”) while they do have height, they are generally slower. Cobbs is from Quantico, located in Northern Virginia and was a target of many local schools, including West Virginia and Penn State. It’s good to see the Terps winning battles for local talent over other semi-local schools that have been raiding the area for years.
Spencer Anderson
By Jordan Viener
The DMV to UMD movement hits its second target in two days, this time with Bishop McNamara offensive tackle Spencer Anderson. Anderson is a 3-star 24/7 composite, and a top 1000 ranked player. Anderson has a Big Ten physical build, towering at 6’5” and weighing 270 pounds. Walt Bell tweeted out “Giant, Smart Edge, athlete” after Anderson committed on Wednesday. While Anderson was not as heavily recruited as some other, it’s mostly due to the fact that he rose amazingly fast in the last two months. He received five offers, three of which came in only in May. 24/7 didn’t even have any prediction data on him until the beginning of June. Offensive line talent is welcome, as the Terps compete in the loaded Big Ten East.
Vincent Flythe
By Jordan Viener
The Terps completed the DMV circuit this week with the verbal commit of defensive back Vincent Flythe. Earlier this week the Terps got Brain Cobbs (Virginia), Spencer Anderson (Maryland), and now Flythe (DC). Flythe held offers from several other power 5 schools, but been considered a Terp lean for a while. He is a 24/7 composite three star and will likely redshirt his first season. Flythe attends DC powerhouse Woodson High School, with him on board the Terps hope to obtain other Woodson players including top 300 running back Mychale Salahuddin and the several other 3 stars at Woodson. With the talent of flood of recent talent to College Park the Terps have catapulted to 17th in the 24/7 2018 class rankings, though of course they are still 4th in the Big Ten east behind OSU, PSU, and Michigan.
