US World Cup Lax Squad Cruises into Finals To Face Canada
The U.S. Women’s National Lacrosse team has rolled through the FIL Rathbones World Cup and will carry a perfect 7-0 record into Saturday’s final against Canada who is led by former Terps great Dana Dobbie.
The American squad has had only one single digit win amassing a collective 125-32 margin including a 17-3 over Canada in the qualifying round.
Six of the 18 players on the roster are Terrapins. Megan Douty and Alice Mercer have anchored the USA defense while Brooke Griffin (20 goals) and Alex Aust (19 goals) are the second and third leading scorers behind Kayla Treanor who has 24. Although Taylor Cummings has only nine goals and five assists, she leads the team with 28 draw controls. Katie Schwarzmann has added five goals in limited playing time.
