Recent Maryland graduate and women’s lacrosse midfielder Zoe Stukenberg was selected as one of 145 nominees for the NCAA Women of the Year Award.
Conferences and an independent selection committee picked the nominees from a pool of 543 school nominees.
The 2017 Tewaaraton Award recipient, Stukenberg was also named the IWLCA National Midfielder of the Year and the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year. As an IWLCA First Team All-American and a co-captain, Stukenberg led the Terps to a 23-0 record and the 2017 NCAA Championship. The Ellicott City, Md., native was picked to the All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Tournament and NCAA All-Tournament teams.
Also a standout in the classroom, Stukenberg graduated last month with a 4.0 grade-point average and a degree in biological sciences. She was named a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American and earned the NCAA’s Elite 90 Award three times.
In early September, the Woman of the Year selection committee will name the Top 30 honorees, which include 10 women from each division. At the end of September, the selection committee will select and announce nine finalists, with three from each division. The NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics will select the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year from those finalists.
The Top 30 honorees will be celebrated and the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named at the annual banquet Oct. 22 in Indianapolis.
The NCAA Woman of the Year program has recognized graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership since its inception in 1991.
