Terps Fall to 6-9 In Big Ten After 70-66 Loss at Lincoln

Some observations of another heartbreaking loss:

Bruno was spectacular last night—21 points–9 rebounds–5 assists–2 Blocks–1 steal

Morsell was 5-11 on FGs –scored 11 points–could not get a call inside

Terps shot 48% but were 5-9 from the Charity stripe–Nebraska was 13-19

James Palmer scored 24 points in 2nd half

Minutes breakdown— Bruno–30, Cowan –40.  Huerter 32, Morsell 35, Wiley 36

Terps are 6-9 in conference (1-6 on the road and 5-2 at home)–my guess as to what has to be done to make the dance

#1 Win the last 3 games to finish at 9-9 and 20-11  and win 2 Big Ten Tournament Games

#2 I’m afraid that if any of the 3 final games are lost it would probably take winning the tournament for the automatic bid

From news reports –

James Palmer Jr. scored 24 of his 26 points in the second half, Isaiah Roby had all 11 of his after half, and Nebraska held off Maryland 70-66 on Tuesday night.

Bruno Fernando tied his career high with 21 points and posted a career-best five assists while notching nine rebounds. Kevin Huerter added 12 points and Darryl Morsell had 11.

Palmer scored 15 straight points for the Huskers (20-8, 11-4 Big Ten) over a 10-minute span that ended when Roby hit one of two free throws with 2:57 left for a 64-59 lead. Roby had a double-double, with 10 rebounds, and he also blocked three shots.

The Terps (17-11, 6-9) had a chance to take the lead with a minute to play, but Glynn Watson Jr. blocked Anthony Cowan Jr.‘s 3-point try, Evan Taylor came up with the loose ball and got it to Watson.

Watson missed a 3-pointer coming out of a timeout, and Roby got the rebound and was immediately fouled. He made both free throws for a 66-63 lead. Huerter’s lay in cut it to one point before Watson made two free throws.

Huerter went to the line with 2.8 seconds left, and after making the first free throw he intentionally missed the second. Palmer got the rebound, was fouled and put the game away with two free throws.

Maryland will return to action this Saturday at the XFINITY Center for an 8:00 pm matchup with Rutgers on the Big Ten Network.
