Terps-Texas Recap 2018

That was great! We should do that again next year!!! What’s that? We play Syracuse instead??? Well, we should enjoy it while it lasts.

Maryland again beat #the 23 ranked Texas Longhorns 34-29 in a bizarre game that spanned over five hours. The Terps struck first with a 28 yard reverse to freshman receiver Jeshaun Jones, the first of three for Jones. Texas would strike back with a 39 yard dart from Sam Ehlinger to Devin Duvernary. The Terps would then rattle off 17 straight points, first it was a 65 yard bomb from Kasim Hill to Jeshaun Jones, then it was a 33 yard field goal from true freshman kicker Joseph Petrino, and to cap it off Jeshaun Jones made it 24-7 with a touchdown pass he threw to 6th year senior Tavion Jacobs.

It would not be long until Texas started the comeback though, less than two minutes later Texas scored on a five-yard Keaontay Ingram run. A few drives later an excellent punt from Texas resulted in field position that led to a safety. Things continued to unravel for the Terps as the following free kick was knocked out of bounds by Maryland and Texas started the drive at the fifty-yard line. Collin Johnson would score on a 22 yard pass from Sam Ellinger, but the Terps would hold a 24-22 lead going into the half thanks to a failed two point attempt by the ‘horns.

As the second half started the teams exchanged three punts before the Terps went four and out at their own 36-yard line. Texas would capitalize on this in just four plays with a two yard touchdown run by Kyle Porter. Maryland would respond with a touchdown of their own by sophomore wing back Tayon Fleet-Davis.

Right when the game was getting really good at the beginning of the fourth quarter a lightening delay that lasted about an hour and a half (and caused 40% of the crowd to leave). By the time the game restarted the field was soaked and the team were basically restarting. A sloppy post-delay game yielded one 18 yard field goal for Maryland and three turnovers to end the game from the Texas end including an interception by Fofie Bazzie of the Terps that sealed the deal.
