Some Super Terrapin Thoughts on June 30–One Month After The Crowning of The Greatest Lacrosse Team of of all Time (IMO)–from BP

At this time (9:40 AM) 30 days ago I was boarding a plane to Hartford, Conn brimming with confidence that my beloved Terrapin Lacrosse team would complete a PERFECT season and take down Cornell and join the ranks as one of THE GREATEST NCAA LACROSSE TEAMS EVER. The mission was completed with ever so lightly a scare. But this event was sandwiched by some of most important moments for Terrapin Nation in the past 2 decades.

New basketball coach Kevin Willard, faced with a depleted roster went to the portal and brought in 2 guards Jahmir Young (all Conference USA from Charlotte)and Donald Curry a (Dematha graduate and Georgetown standout) and thus given Terrapin nation hope for the upcoming year. On top of that he has improved the non–conference schedule by adding UCLA to the schedule on DEC 14 at the Xfinity Center. Add in Louisville and Tennessee proving Willard is willing to play anybody anywhere. We await the new Terrapin Basketball practice facility and understand what a plus this will be for the program.

And now Baseball has reared up and made the “BOB” the hottest ticket in town during the regionals. The excitement generated at the Bob was incredible even in a heartbreaking defeat.Rob Vaughn has produced an incredible brand of Terrapin baseball not seen before seen at Maryland with apologies to mildly successful Eric Bakich and John Chef who left for greener $$$$$$$ pastures at the time.

No more though, with the tremendous promise of more BIG TV success, AD Damon Evans has brought the Coaching staffs to the levels that they should be. Hats off to Damon for his tremendous work!!!

  1. Mike Locksley has received both a raise (to the $4 million range)and extension for the great job he has done in picking up the pieces of a very tough situation he was faced with when he decided to leave Alabama as the Assistant Coach of the year and come home. Locks love for Maryland is unquestioned and we are lucky to have him at the helm.
  2. Rob Vaughn received a substantial raise and an extension to 2027 avoiding losing another baseball coach. The future is nothing but bright for the TERRAPIN NINE.
  3. Damon Evans was able to secure the services of the best Basketball Coach available for hire in the nation. There was no one better. Willard is being compensated at a top level and we anxiously await his success.
  4. Brenda Frese was extended and locked in to Maryland’s Head Women’s Basketball Position for years to come. She has kept Terp basketball at a top 10 level for what seems like forever. By the way UConn and South Carolina are on the schedule this year

This is just the tip of the iceberg of the great things happening at College Park these days.

The State of the University Athletic Department is as good as I can remember.
