As the college football landscape started to change this week, I sat quietly, watching everything unfold.  For months, the experts have speculated about how the conferences would realign and this week was just the beginning in what looks to be a long, drawn out process.  In all the expansion-speculation articles I read (up until this week), the University of Maryland was rarely, if ever, mentioned as a potential candidate to join the Big 10.  Rumors are just rumors, but Maryland’s … Read More »

The women held serve in College Park, advancing as expected in a 15-10 win over UPenn.  The Terps and Quakers played earlier this season and Maryland came out on top 12-6.  The Quakers managed to keep the score deficit within 2-3 goals for most of the game on Saturday but Maryland pulled away late.

The Terps were led by their Big 3, consisting of Caitlyn McFadden, Sarah Mollison, and Karri Ellen Johnson.  McFadden and Mollison each scored 5 goals, … Read More »

Not much to say after the lady’s game today against Marist, other than an emphatic “Wow!”  After two regular season games  between the ACC Tournament and NCAA tournament, the Terps came out firing from the get-go in their opening round game.  Sophomore Karri Ellen Johnson led the way with 5 goals, followed by Sarah Mollison and Amanda Spinnenweber who … Read More »

On the eve of both NCAA lacrosse tournaments, it is hard not to feel that something special could be brewing in College Park.  The women are primed for a national championship, and as I wrote a few days ago, anything less would be a disappointment.  My expectations for the men are not national-championship-or-bust, but a Final Four for sure.

All Terps fans should be excited about what these next few weeks could potentially bring.  This has the potential to be … Read More »

The Montreal Canadiens did the improbable yet again and took down the Penguins in Game 7.  Personally, I think the Habs win tonight starts to remove some of the pain and frustration caused by the Caps losing in the first round.  First off, seeing Pittsburgh and Crosby move on would’ve been sickening for all hockey fans in this area.  The Canadiens’ win tonight also serves to show that maybe they are a wee bit better than their 8-seed shows.

Nonetheless, … Read More »

The NCAA lacrosse brackets were released tonight and both Maryland squads were seeded highly as expected.  The men are the #3 seed and take on Hofstra in the first round while a date with Syracuse awaits them in the Final Four.  The women are the #1 seed and play Marist in the first round with a potential matchup against Georgetown in the Final Four.

Just some general thoughts on both tournaments.  No doubt that this will be one of the … Read More »

The Terps will have a shot at avenging their lone regular season loss on Sunday after they ousted UVA on Saturday by a final score of 10-6.  I didn’t feel like either team ever got into much of a rhythm offensively, but the Terps were able to string a few more goals together when they needed to in the 2nd … Read More »

After meeting with Rutgers AD Tim Pernetti Thursday morning, basketball recruit Gilvydas Biruta elected to stay at Rutgers, according to Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog.com.  Just last Saturday, Biruta listed five schools that he was considering attending next year after he requested a release from his LOI.  Maryland was one of the five schools that Biruta listed as … Read More »

Will Yeatman’s goal tonight to bring the score was utterly phenomenal.  Yeatman was double teamed towards the side of the cage.  In a brute display of physical strength, he muscled his way towards the net, split the defenders, and somehow managed to get off a quality shot despite the fact that the entire defense collapsed on him.

Much has been made of Yeatman’s physical strength, but that goal to go up 9-5 said it all about #23.  I can’t wait … Read More »

The Terps got it done today by winning the must-win.  Maryland is in a brutally tough stretch of games right now, and their two game losing streak shows that.  They absolutely could not go into a game against Johns Hopkins next weekend on a 3-game losing streak, meaning they had to get the W today.  Props … Read More »
