The Verizon Center has officially been re-branded as the “Capital One Arena”. Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post broke the story first saying “Monumental will also announce a separate $40 investment in the privately owned arena, with the money going toward projects such as Monumental360 — a data-based effort to analyze fan preferences — and a new point-of sale system, meant to create more efficient lines. The NCAA has released the national attendance numbers for the every basketball member for the 2016-2017 season. It’s interesting to look at attendance overall (in all three divisions), however for Terp fans only one statistic will matter, the Men’s Basketball team placed 7th in the NCAA in average home attendance pulling in 16,628 per game.

Terps 2018 Basketball Commit Jalen Smith has been playing in the Las Vegas classic AAU tournament for Team Takeover over the last few days. Courtside Films put together a nice highlight tape for Smith. The tape showcases his shooting game and wide offensive skill set. The first commits of the 2019 Maryland Basketball class have been landed. Earlier today top-100 rated twins Makhi and Mahkel Mitchell of Bishop McNamara verbally committed to the Terps as first reported by Terrapin Times. The twins are both 6-9 post players, with Mahki at center and Mahkel at Power Forward.

Former Terps Center Diamond Stone was waived by the Atlanta Hawks today. The 20 year old was expected by many to have a real chance to contribute with the rebuilding Hawks this season, but the team’s depth at the center position (Dwayne Dedmon, Mike Muscala, and Miles Plumlee) was apparently enough to make the team think otherwise.
