Maryland men’s lacrosse senior attackman Matt Rambo has earned the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award for the nation’s most outstanding player as announced today by the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. Additionally, senior attackman Tim Muller earned the William C. Schmeisser Award for the nation’s most outstanding defensive player. My take: for those of you who listen regularly to Terp Talk, I was not providing any untruths as to I felt about the game with Albany. I fully expected a 1 or 2 goal game, with the Terps eeking out a victory. Remember Maryland only defeated Albany by 1 goal, 12-11 on April 12. But:

History lesson: Albany has never played in the Semifinals, let alone won a title. Maryland under coach John Tillman, has qualified for championship weekend five of the last six years. The Terps haven’t won the NCAA title since 1975, going 0-9 in championship games since. Maryland defeated Albany 12-11 this season on April 12.
Stat that matters: Albany’s analytics are spectacular. They lead the country in scoring offense, assists per game, man-down defense, and are second in face-off winning percentage.

Senior Tewaaraton finalist Matt Rambo recorded a career-high eight points and matched a program NCAA Tournament record with six assists to lead the No. 1 Maryland men’s lacrosse team to a 13-10 victory over Bryant in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday.
