The 106th renewal of The Rivalry – Maryland versus Johns Hopkins in men’s lacrosse took place in a steady rain at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium in front of 9.343 loud and enthusiastic fans. Maryland fans left disappointed as Johns Hopkins survived an early Maryland blitz coming from three goals down to win 15-12.
Charlie Raffa saw the field for the first time in three games for Maryland and, on the opening faceoff looked as though he hadn’t missed … Read More »

On most Tuesday mornings during the college lacrosse season, Maryland head coach John Tillman holds a teleconference with members of the media. As he prepares his squad for what is annually the biggest week on the Maryland lacrosse calendar – “Hopkins Week” – he generously spent nearly half an hour answering the usual (and unusual) questions.
Traditionally, Tillman begins with a look back at the previous week. This week, in his review of Maryland’s thrilling come … Read More »
Hopkins Week has arrived. For all the talk sometimes lavished on other games throughout the year, Hopkins Week is, without question, the most intense week of the Maryland men’s lacrosse season. And the contest, simply known as “The Rivalry”, has a new wrinkle and more import than it has ever had.
For the first time in history of the game, Maryland and Johns Hopkins will meet as conference foes. And a conference title is on the line. By virtue of … Read More »

Men’s Lax clinches at least a tie for Regular Season Big Ten Title after miraculous comeback vs OSU
The Big Ten is full of traditional rivalries and, accordingly, has a slew of rivalry trophies. We have a couple other guys we can go to if we needed to. Charlie continues to make good progress. He was dressed last week and we’ll see how he is on Saturday.
He’s a guy that’s hard to keep off the field but as … Read More »

By my rough count, the Big Ten has handed out 84 weekly player of the week or co-player of the week awards – 46 men’s and 38 women’s – in its inaugural lacrosse season. Because of their respective start dates, Maryland wasn’t eligible for four of the men’s awards and six for the women. This week, two Terrapin women and one man won conference player of the week plaudits bringing the men’s total to 12 and … Read More »
For 56 minutes the Terps were dominated in this game and trailed 9-5 but then the cream rose to the top.
The tying goal from Colin Heacock was a rocket at an extreme angle.
Jay Carlson scored the game winner as he completed the hat trick. Maryland always has 1 Senior who rises to new levels–Dan Burns, Joe Cummings, Andrew Schwartzmann, and now Jay Carlson. This is not to take anything away from his his performance last year, but Jay … Read More »

For most of you, Maryland athletics is close to exclusively about two sports – football and men’s basketball. Periodically, other Terrapins teams may appear as proverbial blips on your radar: women’s basketball as they roll to a Big Ten title or reach a Final Four, Sasho Cirovski’s soccer squad as they make their generally annual run deep into the postseason, perhaps the same goes for Missy Meharg and her field hockey team or either of Maryland’s … Read More »
