The Maryland Terrapins baseball team dropped a 4-2 decision to the nation’s top seed the UCLA Bruins on UCLA’s home field Sunday night setting up a win or go home game Monday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Terps are trying to advance to the Super Regional for the second consecutive season and UCLA is looking to avoid becoming the fourth number one seed since 1999 to fail to make it out of its region.

Don’t count Maryland out. It will be interesting to see how each manager will use his staff.  Game ended at 2:35 AM.

I’ll admit it up front. I’m not a good photographer but I try. Wayne, Mason and I talk over some of the photos I took at the Tewaaraton Awards Ceremony last Thursday night. I hope you enjoy them.

Sometimes in life you make the right decision and sometimes a decision is made for you. I had one of those moments Saturday night. With the University of Maryland baseball team playing its NCAA Tournament games on the west coast, I managed to watch the Terrapins take a 4-1 lead after three and a half innings over the tournament’s top seed and home standing UCLA Bruins.

My clock read 12:30 a.m. and my body began sending intense sleep signals as … Read More »

The Maryland Terrapins got some timely hitting early, five strong innings from recently name All-American Mike Shawaryn, one stellar play by Lamonte Wade, and strong relief from Robert Galligan, Bobby Ruse and closer Kevin Mooney to defeat the Ole Miss Rebels in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. As I have said repeatedly, there was just no way Taylor wasn’t going to win the award again. She was far and away the best player in Women’s lacrosse in the country and arguably one of the best ever. Taylor finished the season with: 100 points (63 goals, 37 assists) and ranked in the top five in draw controls (143) and points per game (4.55). She also was eighth in caused turnovers with 36.

For those unfamiliar with the format of an NCAA Baseball Tournament Regional, it consists of 16 four team pods who play in a double elimination format. Simply put, this means you play until you win the region or lose two games whichever occurs first. As a result, win or lose against Mississippi on Friday, Maryland will play at least one more game on Saturday. We have previewed the game with Mississippi here.

Now let’s take a look at the … Read More »

Sunday morning as we sat in the press box at Lincoln Financial Field awaiting the start of the NCAA men’s lacrosse championship game, Terp Talk host and sports maven Bruce Posner and I talked about the NCAA prospects for Maryland’s baseball team. Bruce was confident that, with a record of 39-21 the Terps were, essentially a shoe in to make the field of 64.

I felt a bit less sanguine. After losing the Big Ten Tournament final to Michigan, Maryland’s … Read More »
