The SB Nation site Swish Appeal has reported that Maryland women’s basketball, star point Guard Lexie Brown has requested her release from Maryland and will transfer for the 2015-16 season. Brown, who gave her verbal commitment to Maryland as a high school freshman has been instrumental in helping guide the Terps to consecutive Final Four appearances for the first time in program history.

Brown was considered the jewel of a recruiting class that included rising juniors Brionna Jones and Shatori … Read More »

I think she’s a great player. Watching her on film, she’s obviously very committed, she works hard on the field. Even when she doesn’t have the ball in her stick, I think she gives them a tremendous boost on the ride. She plays with a lot of confidence and swagger and just pure instinct. Unfortunately, she is NOT graduating this year, so we have to deal with her for another three years. She’s great.”

Tonight it was the McDonogh connection of Taylor Cummings and Megan Whittle that completed the final step to the promised land for the Terps.

Maryland trailed 6-3 at halftime and the Taylor took over. Maryland has had some stupendous women players in the past and now that Taylor has won her 2nd NCAA Title and soon to be 2nd Tewaaraton Award (in my opinion), we can now put her in the discussion with Jen Adams and all of the Terrapin … Read More »

The Maryland women’s lacrosse team waited two years for the game against the North Carolina Tar Heels Sunday night. Their loss in the 2014 regular season and their win in the 2015 regular season simply didn’t carry the equivalent emotional weight. The only game the teams have played in the last three seasons that means anything to Maryland’s upperclassmen is the bitter triple overtime loss in the 2013 national championship game. That was the game the that festered just under … Read More »

It may seem odd to open a story of this nature with an apology, but I’m going to do just that. My apology goes out to Malina Howard who was named the NCAA Elite 89 winner for women’s basketball earlier this season. The honor deserves its own story but I merely included it as one element of this story. I intended no slight, Malina.

Why the Elite 89 is a big deal

The NCAA promotes its sponsorship of 89 … Read More »

For the second time in as many nights, Maryland’s baseball squad notched a 2-1 win in their first Big Ten Tournament this one over the Illinois Fighting Illini. While Wednesday night’s win over Michigan State was important, Thursday’s win that ended Illinois’ 27 game winning streak may be even more crucial in several ways that we’ll get to below.

How the Terps pulled out the win

First, let’s take a brief look at how the Terps managed to squeak out … Read More »

Let me start with this: Never rely on me to make an accurate prediction of a sports event. For example, in the press tent prior to Maryland’s NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament quarterfinal game against Northwestern, I brashly predicted that, unlike the first meeting between the two teams, this game would assuredly have no running clock. With 17:46 to play in the second half, Brooke Griffin scored to put the Terps ahead 14-4 and start the running clock. So I feel … Read More »

The Big Ten announced all-conference and postseason baseball honors Tuesday afternoon. Although Maryland failed to claim any individual awards and placed no one on the All-Freshman team, two Terrapins were named to the first team with one making the second team and one on the third team. Each all-conference team consists of one player for each position (except pitcher) and a designated hitter. Each team also includes three starting pitchers and one relief pitcher.
