I’ll have a more comprehensive report at the end of the weekend but for now, let’s let it be sufficient to say that Friday was a good night for Maryland’s bat and ball sports. Both Terrapins softball and baseball opened three game home sets Friday night and each was important for its own reasons.
At the softball complex, the Terps took on the Penn State Nittany Lions in the next to last home series of the season. As the weekend … Read More »
Sophomore right handed pitcher Mike Shawaryn threw eight scoreless innings and struck out a career-high 13 to lead the No. 22 Maryland baseball team past Cal State Fullerton, 2-1, in front of 1,370 spectators at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium Friday night.
The Terrapins (26-10, 8-4) plated their only two wins of the game in the second. With the win, Shawaryn tied John Rayne (1989-92) for the Maryland all-time career wins record.

Honor the past. Compete in the present. Build for the future. Three traits every successful college athletic program share. Maryland volleyball displayed a bit of all three over the past few weeks.
Since his arrival at Maryland, head coach Steve Aird’s mantra has been, “I’m building a program.” The earliest evidence of that came when he chose to honor the commitments of the previous staff and set his sights on recruiting two, three and four years down the road. And … Read More »

The Maryland women’s lacrosse team took their perfect 13-0 (2-0 B1G) on the road to Columbus to face the Ohio State Buckeyes. There’s a bit of history between the two programs with the Terps holding an 8-1 edge all time.

The 24-8 Terps are ranked between 16 and 21 in the various polls while the 21-9 Hawkeyes are ranked as high as 17th in one poll and are unranked in others. Still, Iowa came to College Park undefeated in B1G play sitting atop the conference with a 6-0 record. They returned to their hotel … Read More »

This could only happen in horse racing. We could have a triple crown jockey. Sorry, Calvin Borel, you should have given Mine That Bird the mount in the Preakness. Even though Bird should easily win the Belmont, his record is blemished at the hands of his own favorite jockey.
