My day at The Open Championship
Do you think I’m going to make life easy for those of you who have been waiting to read about my experience at The Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St. Andrews (R & A) and day one of The Open Championship? Think again. Even in my writing at Testudo Times and Terp Talk, I’m somewhat notorious for burying the lead – particularly in feature stories.
So, I’ll start with breakfast when I made … Read More »

Men’s Basketball
As with the football team, questions abounded as Maryland’s men’s basketball team approached the 2014-15 season. The team had missed the NCAA Tournament in each of Mark Turgeon’s first three seasons as the Terrapins’ head coach. The roster had been semi-decimated by the departure of five players at the end of the 2014 season. The pundits certainly thought the Terps faced a transitional year picking them to finish seventh in the … Read More »
In Maryland Terrapins news:
The women’s basketball team added some depth for 2016 Saturday when 2012 Florida Gatorade High School Player of the Year Ieshia Small, who had earlier been granted her release from Baylor, announced via Twitter that she was transferring to Maryland. Small had struggled to find the proper niche at Baylor and her college career hasn’t live up to the promise of a player that ESPN’s HoopGurlz.com described as
“Almost every aspect of her play seems to … Read More »
Baseball
All quiet on the baseball front: Both the Orioles and the Nationals had their scheduled games against the Indians and the Phillies respectively postponed. The O’s and Indians scheduled a split-admission doubleheader for Sunday. The first game, a 1:35 start will honor tickets from Saturday’s game. The second game will start at 7:05. The Nats and Phillies will also play a Sunday doubleheader in the city of brotherly love.
The O’s fell to 1.5 games behind Tampa Bay by … Read More »
As I write this post five days remain until the official end of the University of Maryland’s first full year as a participant in Big Ten athletics. In the first of a series I plan to look back at how the Terps performed in their new home but I will begin with an apology.
Maryland fields teams in 19 sports – 8 men’s teams and 11 women’s teams. I follow 13 of those teams as a fan or reporter. Thus, … Read More »
One of the adjustments Maryland fans have had to make moving from the ACC to the Big Ten has been finding ways to adapt to the tradition laden conference. The Terps took one step along that road when they created the Rivalry Game and Trophy for what will now be an annual men’s lacrosse game with Johns Hopkins. Another B1G Tradition – one that started in 1982 for men and 1983 for women, is to have each member institution nominate … Read More »
I’m no sports maven but because I write about so many different sports, I often find myself engaged in conversations with people in which I casually mention some fact that they find unexpected. Recently, I surprised someone when I noted that some of Maryland’s best women’s lacrosse players, including probably the greatest of them all Jen Adams, have come to the Terrapins from Australia.
I mention this because about 10 days ago the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) announced its … Read More »
In conjunction with their support group, the Rebounders, the Maryland women’s basketball team chose a unique way to celebrate Father’s Day by holding the fifth edition of their unique fun(d)raiser – a mini-golf tournament at the Columbia Sports Park. The event took a one year hiatus when the NCAA changed its recruiting rules in 2014 as head coach Brenda Frese and … Read More »
Today I have the chance to write about one of my favorite sports to follow at Maryland – field hockey. For those of you who aren’t familiar with me, I’ll ask you to indulge me as I take a few paragraphs to explain.
Getting to know me
Four or so years ago, seeking some information about Maryland athletics I stumbled across a website called Testudo Times. I read some of the comments and it seemed like a vibrant community so, … Read More »
